Bowling, Or Not

Tonight was the wife’s company Christmas party. And this year it was held at a local bowling alley. Because, who doesn’t like bowling? Our kids love it, they get the kiddie ramp out and we get them a lane just for the three of them. Once the bumpers are up, they can spend hours doing their level best to knock those pins down.

But tonight, it was not meant to be. As soon as we arrived, it was obvious that at least half of the lanes were out of commission. The place is in the middle of upgrading the racking machines, and the work was not even close to being finished. So out of about 18 lanes, only six were open for use, and after the first twenty minutes, two lanes had fallen to mechanical issues. Seeing how there were more players than lanes, Valerie and I skipped playing, and instead paid for a lane for the kiddos to use. Not long after that, the lane that we had been assigned to went down, then was repaired, then went down for good. (Sigh)

At that point it was decided that the coworker gift exchange would be happening a bit sooner than planned, but our kids could not have cared less, they had come to bowl, and no bowling was to be had.

For only being two years old, Joey loves bowling, a lot. And so he was the hardest hit when we said it was time to call it quits, and head home. Many a tear was shed in those minutes spent packing up and heading to the truck, but all was made whole again, after we offered to get the kids holiday ice cream and eggnog as a consolation prize.

And so the night ended with a roaring fire and candy cane ice cream. Oh, and an episode of classic Spiderman, per request, and courtesy of Netflix.

  1. Rough….been there with my nephews. Nothing worse than breaking little hearts at the bowling alley. I saw your post on Goog +1. I have a blog on WordPress on the SAHD topic as well. Take care

  2. Thankfully, we now have a credit at the alley, so we will be returning sometime soon to finish the game that never was. I have found a number of dad blogs on Google+, glad you found mine, and I will be stopping by to check yours out.
